Ultimate Electronics is a chain of consumer electronics stores in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico and Oklahoma. It is incorporated in the state of Delaware and its principal offices are in Thornton, Colorado. A rapid expansion in the early 2000s ,coupled with an economic downturn in consumer spending, forced the company to file for bankruptcy in 2005. That same year, Ultimate emerged from bankruptcy protection with half its stores closed and as a privately owned company. Mark Wattles, chairman and CEO, was the creator of Hollywood Video, the video rental giant.
