Tony Kanal (born Tony Ashwin Kanal, August 27, 1970) is an English-born American musician and record producer. Kanal is the bassist for rock band No Doubt and produced Together as One, the debut album of reggae singer Elan Atias.
Kanal's parents, originally from India, raised him and his brother in London, England. In 1981, the family moved to the United States and opened a store named "Kanal's Gifts and Fashion".
At age 15, he met a fellow saxophone player Eric Carpenter at band camp. Despite not wanting to practice in the football field early in the morning, it was a requirement to play in the Anaheim High School jazz band. After band camp, Eric had the opportunity to play bass guitar in the jazz band, but instead he lent Tony his bass and Dave (Eric's brother) taught Tony the instrument.
