About Sun Yue

Sun Yue (simplified Chinese: 孙悦; traditional Chinese: 孫悅; pinyin: Sūn Yuè, born November 6, 1985 in Cangzhou, Hebei, China) is a 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) Chinese professional basketball player from Hebei. He mainly plays the point guard position, but he can also play at the shooting guard and small forward positions. He is currently a member of the NBA team the Los Angeles Lakers.

Sun attracted attention from the NBA mainly because of his exceptional height for a point guard and his passing skills. Despite being 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) and 220 lbs. (100 kg), Sun has proven to be a capable point guard for both the Beijing Olympians and the Chinese national basketball team. However, during the 2006 FIBA World Championships Sun Yue was benched by China's head coach Jonas Kazlauskas in favor of the young point guard prospect and fellow Chinese national teammate, Chen Jianghua.

On the Chinese national basketball team, Sun has alternated coming off the bench with Chen Jianghua, behind the team's starting point guard Liu Wei. He was initially forecast as the top point guard for China by the 2008 Olympic Basketball Tournament in Beijing, with his exceptional size and passing ability, but with the rise of Chen, there is now doubt as to who will be the better Chinese point guard in the future.
