"Just Dance" is an electropop/dance-pop song and lead single from Lady GaGa's first album, The Fame. The song is written by Lady GaGa and features Colby O'Donis, who is signed to the same label as Lady GaGa, and Akon, who provides backing vocals through Colby's verse and shortly afterwards. The track is co-written and produced by RedOne (most known for working with Akon, MJ, Shakira, Kat DeLuna). The song is said to be about a girl who is in a club, and she has apparently had so much to drink she cannot even remember what the club's name is.
Lady GaGa performed "Just Dance" at the Miss Universe 2008 pageant; after performing "Just Dance" climbed the digital single sales charts, such as the iTunes Store, where it reached #99 then #48. After her performance on the So You Think You Can Dance results show, the single reached a new peak of #25 on the American iTunes Store and #1 on the Canadian iTunes Store.
The video, directed by Melina Matsoukas, starts Lady GaGa arrives with her dancers, Dina and Pepper, at a house party, one of whom puts a stereo on, starting the music. The crowd at the party appear to be sleeping in different areas, and are awoken by the music. They all start to dance, and scenes of the party are intercut with scenes of Lady GaGa. Cameo appearances are made by Akon and Chantelle Paige.
